2016 SurfaceSet Student Innovation Competition by Formica

The future leaders in commercial design have an opportunity to showcase their creative talents while competing to win cash prizes for innovative designs in the SurfaceSet 2016 Student Innovation Competition by Formica Corporation – a new competition for students enrolled in interior design programs and architectural schools.

The Program

Students are invited to submit an interior design rendering of a commercial space using at least three selection from SurfaceSet™ 2016 by Formica Corporation, a trend-forward collection of 35 new laminates inspired by nature and minimalism. Curated to influence a wide variety of commercial spaces from retail stores to acute care centers, products in the collection include new colors, finishes, patterns, wood grains, a reclaimed denim fiber laminate, as well as designs by Jonathan Adler.

The contest judges, in addition to Jonathan Adler, include Gerri Chmiel, North America residential design lead for Formica Corporation; Scott Dannenfelser, North America commercial design lead; and Renee Hytry Derrington, Group VP of Design for Fletcher Building’s Laminates & Panels Division, which includes Formica Corporation. Contest winners will be announced December 1, 2015.

The Pay-Off

One grand-prize winner will be determined from 10 finalists by a panel of expert design professionals, including renowned designer Jonathan Adler. The first-prize winner will be awarded $5,000 and a signed pottery piece from Jonathan Adler, the second-prize winner will be awarded $1,000 and the third-prize winner will be awarded $500. The winning designs will be showcased on formica.com.

The Deadline

Entries will be accepted from October 1 through November 20, 2015.
