Rosemary and Mint

Individually these two herbs can easily stand alone with their unique and powerful properties, but together rosemary and mint send my spirits soaring. The combination never fails to provide an instant mental pick-me-up that is simultaneously invigorating and calming.

Why Rosemary and Mint

I have always been very sensitive to scent, so I absolutely believe in the concept of aromatherapy. It was not until I stayed at the Hotel San Jose years ago not too long after it opened that I discovered the power rosemary and mint have over me, however.

It was summer, so my friend and I had the air-conditioning cranked up high throughout the night. The proprietors featured natural rosemary and mint products in the bathroom, but our room was so small that the scent permeated every square inch. Every time I woke up in the middle of the night, I would take a deep, cold breath of air infused with the aroma of this dynamic herbaceous duo, and it would put a smile on my face as I fell back to sleep.

Disappointingly, I stayed at the Austin hotel a few times in subsequent years and never had the same experience. In an effort to recreate that magical night, I have fantasized many times about figuring out how to invent naturally infused rosemary and mint scented air filters that would transform the air coming out of our home’s vents all year round.

Alas, I must get my rosemary and mint fix in other, smaller ways:

1) Several companies make lovely rosemary and mint products. Indigo Wild offers Zum Bar soap, and Aveda features an entire range of personal care products.

2) We grow both herbs in our back yard, and I will rub my hands and arms all over both, allowing the oils to mix on my skin. This natural perfume lasts for hours.

Rosemary and mint might not be your miracle scent, but I sure hope you find yours.
