Also spelled douppioni or doupioni and even alternatively named doupion or dupion, this term refers to unusually large silk yarns with great tensile strength that are created from two united cocoons. The yarns are then used to produce different fabrics, such as shantung and pongee. Dupioni also refers to the entire fabric of dupioni yarn.
