(pronounced loom-eh-NAIR)

AKA “light fixture”. A complete lighting unit. This word is used instead of “light” because the word “light” should really only refer to the electromagnetic radiation that allows us to see in the first place. To get a little more detailed, a luminaire is made up of the lamp (light source), the housing, usually some kind of optical reflector, and finally the electrical components that allow you to start and operate the lamp.
