People Who Love P&C

I wanted to thank you for putting out a website like plinthandchintz.com. I was in one of your lectures in the student convention in Houston, TX, for IIDA in February [2010]. I finally got a chance to look at your online magazine and I enjoyed it. I'm so glad that I made the effort to attend the convention because it got me thinking about what I need to do as far as networking. Thank you for your time and all of the information you provide for us.
- Rosario Don – Interior Design Student, University of Texas at San Antonio

If you’re tired of eating off the same old plain-Jane dishware, it’s time you met Sarah Cihat. While at Parsons School of Design in New York City, she originated the idea of Rehabilitated Dishware as part of her senior thesis project. She scours thrift stores, grandma’s attic, and discount bins to find perfectly usable, if not quite beautiful, plates and platters, then reglazes and refires them with her unique twist – say a skull & crossbones, or an astronaut silhouette laid over the original piece. Design past and present come together to repurpose unwanted things into new (to you!) products.

Restoration & Remediation
Designers and architects create functional, aesthetically pleasing environments, but those environments must be meticulously managed and maintained. Structures and systems are in a constant state of entropy due to normal wear-n-tear, and accidents and natural disasters only add to the mix, creating problems like water and smoke damage. Furthermore, mistakes are made and steps are skipped (we won’t name any names here) during construction and inspections, ultimately leading to problems such as excessive moisture, resulting in mold growth and indoor air quality issues. If the demand of detailed attention of facilities management fascinates you, then read Restoration & Remediation.
