Z
Stop the giggles – this is a legitimate term, and it usually refers to glazing, though it can refer to woodwork as well. It’s simply where two abutting surfaces (or like pieces) are placed squarely together. In glazing, there is a small gap left between the two panes of glass. Sometimes the gap is filled with a clear sealant (to prevent air from passing through, to cut down on sound transfer, and to ensure security), and sometimes it’s just left open for a very crisp and clean interior. In paneling, the pieces are often placed right against one other, forming a smooth, uniform surface.
