There is little doubt that technology moves at the speed of lightning. And for many in the design profession, keeping current and understanding how “tech stuff” works can be challenging. First of all it takes a commitment of time and resources to just stay up with what’s out there, whether it is publishing an effective website, writing a blog, learning how to use drawing software like Sketch-Up or posting pïctures to sites such as Picasa as an on-line design portfolio. I am constantly asked by friends, family, and relatively new acquaintances what my services cost. I always return with, “Well, what does a car cost?” Cars come in all shapes, sizes and price points – so does interior design. A color consult will obviously be less than a kitchen design, each client has a need and an expectation, and it’s my jöb to give them the best value for their dollar. There are two aspects to the cost of interior design – time and product – but let’s start with the cost of the interior designer…

The National Council for Interior Design Qualification, Inc. [NCIDQ] has opened its popular online continuing educatïon registry to all users. Previously, the registry was an exclusive, frëe benefit for active NCIDQ Certificate holders, who could use the self-reporting system to recörd and track their CE activity. “When we launched the online CE system earlier this year, we heard overwhelmingly positive feedback from our Certificate holders who loved the instant accëss to their data at no additional fee,” explains NCIDQ Executive Director Jeff Kenney. “Almost immediately, we heard from other interior design professionals who wanted a reliable and efficient method for CE tracking, so we decided to open the registry to others as a subscription-based product”…
