With every new job comes a certain amount of trepidation. It usually means a complete new way of doing things, meeting new people, getting acclimated to the surroundings, and worrying about how to fit in. But Amanda McClanahan had no time for any of that. When she started as market editor for Southern Accents, McClanahan’s supervising editors had her selecting products to feature in the magazine, meeting designers, and traveling around the country. On May 11, 2006, an article titled “The Secret Source Is Out” by reporter Kimberly Stevens appeared in The New York Times. The fairly catty commentary opened with the line: “NOTE to Mario Buatta: The world as you know it is over.” If the highly respected Prince of Chintz wasn’t too happy with the content of Ms. Stevens’ piece, then he wasn’t alone. Here’s your answer: Green Citizen, a savvy new business that wants to make “recycling electronics so easy that you’ll make it a part of your everyday routine."
