In my random readings this past summer, two novel terms, each a compound of everyday words, kept popping up, especially in material from the UK. Since the expressions – as well as the concepts behind them – are swiftly lifestylelinguistics.gifdog paddling across The Pond, AND since they apply to most of us in the creative fields (i.e., our readers), I thought I’d highlight them:

FAMBITION [a combo of family and ambition] – The MORE TH>N Business Foresight Index, which annually gauges developments in the small business sector (yes, a study exists for just about everything), reports that almost 85% of those who own or run small businesses do so because it affords them a better lifestyle – one focused on family, flextime, and a more balanced life – rather than a fatter bank account.

ALTERPRENEUR [an amalgamation of alternative and entrepreneur] – So who are these people desiring more freedom at the expense of less money” A mix of traditional entrepreneurs and contemporary alterpreneurs, a.k.a. people who still seek out meaningful careers and comfortable standards of living, but who don’t strive for megabuck ventures if their endeavors will interfere with their peace of mind.

If you can relate, then you are part of powerful global shift. Read more about your fellow “club members” by clicking on the following terms: fambition, alterpreneur. Peace out.
