The abbreviation for building integrated photovoltaics, which is one of the fastest growing areas of the solar power industry. Since photovoltaics is the method of using solar radiation (sunlight) to generate direct current electricity, it would make sense that BIPV is the integration of such technology into a building’s exterior systems (surfaces exposed to sunlight), such as its envelope, roofing or canopy systems. The energy produced can augment the structure’s traditional electrical power or, in some cases, be its principal source, cutting electricity costs immensely.
