double-hung window

(pronounced DUH-behl hung WIHN-doh)

Probably the most common style of window, the double-hung variety features two vertical sashes mounted on separate guides, one above the other. Sometimes both are mobile so that either or both can be opened at one time, and sometimes the top sash is fixed so that only the bottom one slides up and down.
