(pronounced ih-lehk-truh-STA-tihk DIHS-charj)

Otherwise known as ESD, this term describes an abrupt, unexpected, and undesirable flash of electrical current that surges between two objects, usually expensive, high-tech electrical equipment in a setting such as a hospital, research facility or server room. Since the rush of current usually damages the equipment, it’s best to try to prevent it from happening by specifying anti-static flooring and/or using grounding equipment.
