Holly Cavey does anything but go lightly. (For all of you readers under 30-years-old, that’s a Breakfast At Tiffany’s  reference.) She’s currently attending the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, the only major she even considered. This hard working Junior is very happy about her choice of study: “I have always had an interest in the arts and anything allowing creativity. I think that being an Interior Designer would utilize all of my best talents, and I decided to go for it. I have loved all of the classes, and the more I learn, the more I like.”

Due to her year-round employment at Pier 1 Imports, she doesn’t always get to attend the ASID student chapter meetings at UNT, but she gets involved when she can. Working at a store with design in mind has benefited her, though: “I love it because it allows me to work with customers. Together we find something that they can take home and enjoy.”

What Holly would really love is to find an internship before she finishes her course work: “I think that it would teach me so much more about the field than I could ever learn from a book or in a classroom. It seems like it would be a real insight into what it is really like to be an Interior Designer: the stress, the time management, the difficult clients. Seeing the rewards of actually seeing a project come to life would be great experience to lead into the field with.”

Although she’s currently leaning towards a career in Hospitality design, she just wants to get out there: “I wouldn’t be disappointed if I got a job doing any other type of design. It all sounds intriguing to me.”

Because we are nosy here at PLiNTH & CHiNTZ, we were compelled to ask some hard-hitting questions of Holly. She was good sport and indulged us.

P&C: What were your favorite toys growing up”

HC: I loved Barbies, My Little Ponies, and I liked to read, strangely enough.

P&C: What do you do for fun”

HC: Hang out with friends, play games, see movies, shop; you know – all the good stuff!

P&C: When you crave a snack, do you prefer something sweet or something salty”

HC: Definitely sweet!

P&C: What was the best part of Summer 2004″

HC: Learning things about myself I never knew. Summers never cease to amaze me!
