Pop quiz for students and recent graduates! Select one:

A) Do you want to be the best one-stall bathroom designer in your city? OR

B) Do you want to get a wide variety of experience that will give you the opportunity to grow as an interior designer?

If you picked B, then you may want to check out NCIDQ’s Interior Design Experience Program (IDEP for short).

If you are a student or recent graduate, IDEP will provide you a roadmap for your future career as a qualified interior design professional. Even if you’ve gained some past experience via internships and shadowing programs, you should sign up for IDEP as soon as you begin working in the field so that you can easily plan the course of your impending design training.

Not to fear – you will not be sailing into uncharted waters alone! There will be help navigating your IDEP map. Your direct supervisor at work will be your daily guide. He or she will assist you in gaining experience in all areas of interior design in order to meet the IDEP requirements. In addition, you’ll have a mentor (preferably outside your workplace) who will check in with you several times a year to see how you are doing and help put things in perspective.

Depending on your education level, you can complete IDEP in two to three years. By completing IDEP, you’ll automatically satisfy NCIDQ’s exam eligibility requirement for work experience. The bonus: Your exam application will be quick and easy because NCIDQ will already have your school transcripts and work experience on file!
