Multiple Choice Test
Change to Multiple-Choice Exams in 2010
NCIDQ&A 15 years ago No Comments

Beginning in 2010, NCIDQ will administer new multiple-choice examination sections for all test takers. The current Sections I and II of the Exam will be replaced with updated versions of the test to ensure the Exam remains relevant to the profession and tests aspects of the interior design practice that affect the public health, safety and welfare.

How It Affects Exam Candidates

The change to the multiple-choice sections will require those candidates who have not previously passed BOTH the current Section I (Principles and Practices of Interior Design) AND Section II (Construction Documents and Administration) to pass BOTH of these sections by the end of 2009.

If candidates have passed ONLY Section I or ONLY Section II, but not BOTH by December 31, 2009, they must pass BOTH new multiple-choice sections in order to earn their Certificate or qualify for state licensure or provincial registration.

Why It’s Changing

Every five years, NCIDQ undertakes a rigorous process called a “practice analysis” to ensure that the Examination tests what interior designers do in the course of their daily practice. NCIDQ recently completed a 2008 practice analysis, which resulted in the need to modify the multiple-choice sections of the exam.
