Commencement Suspense
Thoughts 19 years ago No Comments

Graduation day is tough for adults. They go to the ceremony as parents. They come home as contemporaries. After twenty-two years of child-raising, they are unemployed.

It’s the season for graduation, that highly respected, eagerly anticipated, often over-hyped life’s passage. We will spare you the strive-to-be-an-individual, embrace-life’s-journey and move-happily-into-the-next-phase-of-your-life clichés, for they will spew forth freely from the mouths of too many commencement speakers already.

We just want to give you the Straight Story: Graduation is scary. It’s OK to admit it. But guess what” You will survive – with a little humor, of course. To make the transition easier, we’re providing some Survival Tips for all parties involved…

  • High School Graduates: Prepare for the move from top of the food chain to the bottom of the heap. Pack lightly (i.e. no stuffed animals) and get plenty of sleep while you still can.
  • College Graduates Without Jobs: Prepare for 9:00am interviews instead of 7:00am bedtimes. Take plenty of vitamins and drink more water than you’re used to.
  • College Graduates With Jobs: Prepare to look presentable, donning something other than what you found on your bedroom floor. Find an affordable dry-cleaner and a versatile, wrinkle-free suit. Oh, and get a haircut.
  • Parents: Prepare to spend more money on yourselves. Make an appointment at a spa and a reservation at an expensive restaurant. Toast yourselves for a job well done and then go home and change the locks.

So when you recover from all the Pomp & Circumstance, commence to spread the word about PLiNTH & CHiNTZ. It’s just good karma.
