cleanability code

(pronounced kleen-uh-BIH-leh-tee kohd)

Most retail furniture fabrics now carry cleanability codes that help consumers know the best to clean a particular upholstered fabric. This industry code appears on the manufacturer’s label, and it will be one of four letters: W, S, W-S, X. Code “W” is used on fabrics that should be cleaned with water based cleaning agents. Code “S” is used on fabrics that can accept a mild water-free cleaning solvent or dry cleaning product. As you might imagine, code “W-S” fabrics can be cleaned with either water or solvent based products. Equally as appropriate, code “X” fabrics should only be vacuumed or brushed gently.
