You say it like you see it. To put it simply, a plinth is the base of something. It can be a base of a building, a column, a pilaster, or the base of a stand-alone object like a statue or even a bathtub. If it is the base of a door or window casing, it is often known as a “plinth block”. A plinth provides a visual weight – a platform or stopping point – that serves to balance out the element or overall design.
